Snow Fort  was created by five student from the University of East London for Liminal VR.

For this project we were asked to choose between 3 different feeling, calmness, awe and energy that our game focused on. In our case we decide to take calmness as Liminal VR had an amazing documentation regarding this type of experience that we could use as a reference when creating this game.

This is a first person simulator that allows you to explore and experience the full glory of the South Pole. The main character is a child that has been transferred along side his whole family to carry out various tasks that will benefit the world. As a child, there’s not much you can help with, giving you enough time to roam freely and explore the endless possibilities the game has to offer.

For the gameplay we wanted to limit the amount of mechanics in the game. This is to keep the player relaxed by not from having too many actions available which prevents the player from getting stressed.

We also wanted to allow the player complete freedom when exploring the base. We did not want to lock locations behind tasks as the player might get confused why they can’t go a certain room or location which can take away from the calming experience.

The main gameplay features in the game are:

-          Exploration: the player can explore the facility finding collectables and talking to NPCs. Find animals such as penguins and polar bears around the base site.

-          Dialogue: the player can talk to NPCs to receive hints or instructions on what to do around the facility and south pole.

-          Collectables: hidden around the map are some collectables that the player can find and when they are found are presented in the player’s room on the shelf.

Snow Fort was created using Unity as the game engine and in a timeframe of around 7 weeks.
